    Winter's Energy

    Acrylic on panel.
There is nothing more liberating than taking an implement and drawing quick gestural marks into wet paint. This piece exists solely for the pleasure of itself; to evoke joy to feel movement and energy in a pure sense of decadent expression.

Habits are Strong, Memories are Long; Chaos

Bronze pigment, stainless steel, acrylic medium. Framed in white

In this commission, I tried to show internal chaos and uncertainty felt during tumultuous times. What emerged was a symbiotic atmosphere depicted in the conflicting values of stainless steel, titanium and bronze.

Mirroring the convergence of ideas between feminism, angst and beauty. The real struggles of integration are depicted with this snapshot of floating orbs in a sea of gold.

This is the same painting as the previous image, only photographed in regular indoor lighting. With a bright light on it in a dimly lit room, it becomes very dramatic!

    Shelter

Shelter is a piece quickly brought to life on a piece of board and later destroyed. Its spirit was apparent but the gestures convey a sense of anxiety and confusion, two of the most accessible emotions to come out of that time for me.

This large painting was the second painting (after Orbital) where I attempted to compartmentalize and morph active elements in a more stable ground. They reflect a decrease in inner turmoil and the blues reflect the same calmness.

I have kept two copies of this painting side by side for a reason. It appears quite different in various lights. In this professionally shot image a bright strobe was used. In the following image was captured in regular indoor lighting.

The narrative for this piece stems from a conversation with my mother. She had told me around the time of the birth of my second daughter that she was pleased because "girls are so much easier than boys". She had raised two of each. I can still remember confronting her about her comment when they were about 12 and 6, to which she gleefully retorted, "I lied." The original title to this was "Girls Are Easier, That's What They All Said" but was changed to reflect the true nature of these powerful young women now 29 and 34.
